Progress - pages (drafts)

This blog post will detail the hand drawn drafts as well as digital created drafts, this will create the baseline for the layout of the magazine and give a general overview to the style and aesthetic the magazine will employ.

General overview planning - looking at composition

At the start of the pre-production stage, I planned by drawing a rough sketch of the layout I wanted to incorporate to the magazine. This sketch served as the very basic layout before adding in the details which will be shown in the next few images. Before the photoshoot it was essential to mark what kind of style and poses we wanted to include for the magazine and this surely helped in aiding the then photoshoot.

In this image, I displayed the rough sketches for the contents page, cover page as well as font types for the masthead. This included adjustments on the side which can be marked by the arrows pointing outwards from the drafts, through this I as well learned to make the article page more aligned, both magazines from me and my partner wanted to conform to typical magazines in our genre that have a cohesive 1/3 text to page to ratio for each section for the right hand side, As most readers read from left-right, I wanted the main image of the heels to be on the right as it is the most attention grabbing and aligns with the bold text.

For the ad, double spread and main cover design I've created a few more drafts, the two double spread pages here still follow similar designs however, are more text than picture heavy as compared to the previous draft in the above seen image. These two add variations so that it was easier to assess which would be best for the final layout. The ad pages as well here were very image heavy which conformed to typical magazines in our genre, including very limited text other than the brand logo to make the ad look more minimalistic
