This blog post will detail the research of different music video promotions. I plan to discuss different promotions within the same genre and others targeting similar age groups. I did 2 different types of research, old and new. The old one below comprises pop artists before my group decided on doing the R&B genre which is differentiated in the next section below.
Reflection: The research below has been nicely compiled, I felt as though it wasn't enough however, over the term break I plan to include more artist research. Below the boards of different artists below, i may look at the marketing strategy that record labels used to target audiences, it may provide information on how we can distribute the content. As we are still an indie band, it's important to weaponize any strategies or tools we encounter so that we can get the artist name out there.
Old Research

I really loved Olivia Rodrigo's sour promotion, although the theme is more teenage angst I felt that the photoshoot and scrapbook like style fit the vibe that our group was looking for. Her instagram also was pretty put together and coordinated, the purple color stands out and this use of consistency ensured a good brand image for her to employ. Hence we want to use a color that people may easily recognize us for. |

Sabrina carpenter's promotion for her album "emails I can't send" was another promising and unforgettable promotion. I loved how she marketed her music video and tour through her website, she stuck to the theme and used an old desktop kind of layout, I also really loved how her content on instagram and tiktok was promoted. You could tell it was suited for a younger audience and it stuck onto Sabrina's brand image which we also plan to create for our artist Jun. |

Taylor Swift also released a recent album, her remastered version of the album 1989. The promotion for the album was incredible, the vintage theme almost made the album cover look like it was set during the era, with the prominence of blue in a lot of the promotion which was calming and soothing which may be pleasing for audiences to look at. Her promotion of different products on her site such as record players and certain dvds/records she's selling gave an idea for us to also create merchandise for our artists. This is to ensure that we can create more profit and take advantage of the fact that fans love merchandise and a good collection of clothes or certain clothing items may make it easier for audiences to keep being engaged with the stuff we release. |
New Research

We stayed with the R&B theme and hence I thought of Usher, with his upcoming superbowl performance his social media game has been rising and the branding of his status stood out to me as inspiration for our star. With the dark color palette and his cool vibe, it brought a relatable and hip personality which I wanted to embed in our artist's social media. |
|
I also thought the color palette and layout of 21 Savage's social media pages to be quite interesting, his branding throughout is on theme with the dark aesthetic portrayed all over. We could see him balancing the lights and darks even making red stand out which matches with the black and white which I loved to see. |
